Let's chat about hearth health. 🫀 You might already know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in our country. And the crazier thing is so much of the heart disease we have in this country is preventable, or at least manageable with lifestyle. (Obviously each case is different and if you have a heart condition, listen to your doctor, not me!)
So let’s talk about simple things we can do to take better care of our hearts. 👍 I mean why not do what we can to try for the best outcome in life?!
👟 Exercise
According to Johns Hopkins, aerobic exercise and resistance training are both great for your heart. Aerobic exercise improves circulation, which results in lowered blood pressure and heart rate. And resistance training reduces body fat. Less body fat, especially in the belly, may help raise HDL (good) cholesterol and lower LDL (bad) cholesterol. All good for your heart!
🥬 Eat heart healthy foods. Things like garlic, dark chocolate, leafy green vegetables, berries, avocado and walnuts are all great for your heart. Anything with antioxidants is also great.
🚫 Avoid heart-hurtful foods. These foods include sodium, sugar, saturated and trans fats, red meat
and alcohol. Obviously, you need to enjoy your life, but limit these things for a healthy heart.
😌 Manage stress. Try to keep your stress levels down, and prioritize rest and relaxation. You can try deep breathing, stretching, morning or evening walks, relaxing bedtime routine, prayer and devotional – anything that makes you feel calm is great for your heart!
